Why Hungarian Goose Down?
Hungary has been known for its geese for centuries, however they only became industrialised in the last 50-60 years. There are around 5 million breeding geese in Hungary, with the females producing about 50 offspring per year. Hungary’s climate with harsh cold winters makes it the ideal place for geese to grow thick down and feather, which has a uniquely high quality in comparison with the rest of the world.
The big difference between Hungarian geese and other geese is the size, Hungarian geese are approximately twice the size on average over other types of geese generally found in Asia. It’s because of this size that they are so popular as it makes for much larger down clusters and a higher filling power, making it the ideal fill to use in our bedding products. They are also a uniquely bright white colour as Hungary has a higher number of sunshine hours.
Hungarian Down also has higher recovery power than other down. Recovery power is a new measurement which indicates the down material’s ability to retain it’s shape, form and overall quality. Many factors attribute to why Hungarian Down has higher recovery power
- Special climate
- Free range breeding
- Green GMO free, fibre-rich feed
- Closeness of natural clean water
Hungarian Down Tracking System (HDTS)
In a New Zealand exclusive, we're using a system called HDTS that allows you to find out incredible amounts of information about the product you have purchased. By simply scanning your unique QR Code that is provided with your product, you can see exactly where in Hungary the down is from, benefits associated with the down you have chosen, and much more.
Responsible Down Standard (RDS)
All of our Hungarian Down is RDS certified meaning it is held to the highest global standard in the ethical sourcing of down and feathers. This ensures that all Hungarian Down we receive are from free range farms that do not force feed or live pluck their birds.
To keep your pillow fresh it is recommended that you fluff and air frequently. It may be hand washed in warm, soapy solution so long as it is rinsed well and you do not wring it out. It is important to dry without delay using frequent agitation and ensure the fill is completely dry. The best way to achieve this is using using a tumble drier on the warm setting. It is also drycleanable. This information can be found on the care label attached to each product we offer.
We aim to dispatch all orders the next business day after purchase. During periods of high demand it may take an extra day to ship items. All items will be shipped via NZ Post/Courier Post and tracking is provided by email as soon as they are shipped.
I was so happy with mine I had to buy another five as presents for the family. It not only feels so luxurious but ticks all the performance boxes in that it maintains a loftiness and peaceful softness that surpasses all other wannabe perfect pillow imposters. I have a feeling that more will be required soon!
I purchased this for my husband. He’s loving it getting a great night’s sleep
Disappointed i felt the pillows were a very small standard also paint or dye on one pillow do youhave lodge pillows
Hi Veronica, thanks for your review. The pillows are made to the standard New Zealand pillow size of 45 x 71cm and this is the only size of pillow we currently offer. Lodge sized pillows are something we are currently looking into as a future option. In regards to the marks you have found on one of the pillows, if you could contact us at email@example.com we can replace that pillow for you as this would be considered a fault. Thanks, Lucas Mills, Eiderdown
super comfy and worth the purchase
When I was a kid I used to have a goose down pillow, I never thought much of it, it was there since I could remember. Then I grew up, then got older and I had many different pillows. None of them were as good, but I never connected the dots why; until now. I can't say if this is the best pillow for everyone, but I can safely say that it is for me. 100% worth it, thank you.
